1916

1916 (Roman Numerals: MCMXVI) was the 16th year of the 20th century. 1916 was a leap year, and the first day of the year was a Saturday.

In 1916 World War I continued to rage. The great naval fleets of Britain and Germany clashed at the Battle Of Jutland. There was bloody stalemate, and trench warfare on the Western Front, as exemplified by the Battle of Verdun and Battle of the Somme. Irish nationalists launched an armed uprising against Britain in the Easter rising.
