Major Events of 1943

1943 (Roman Numerals: MCMXLIII) was the 43rd year of the 20th century. 1943 was not a leap year, and the first day of the year was a Friday.

In 1943 World War II continued to rage. The German forces surrounded in Stalingrad surrendered, and Germany's last major attack on the East Front was defeated in the Battle of Kursk. The Western Allies defeated the remaining Axis forces in North Africa, and then invaded Sicily and later mainland Italy. Italy surrendered to the Allies, but the Northern half of the country was occupied by the Germans.
