Click Here | Amazon.com: The release date is early February, but it's hard to imagine a more hotly anticipated kids' CD arriving all year. Here Come the 123s, the companion piece to 2005's Here Come the ABCs, is among the buzziest properties to hit kid-land since Laurie Berkner started shaking things up in the late '90s. That's because the artists behind it are the kinds of geniuses who merit a thousand-page expose in The New Yorker but also know how to bust out a proper jam. The Johns--that's John Flansburgh and John Linnell to the uninitiated--have accomplished what no other respected rock band has done with these discs: they've blown the lid off They Might Be Giants' otherwise cultish fan base and brokered themselves a deal with a couple of generations. TMBG have made bright and extremely quirky pop songs out of stuff you learn in preschool (the ABCs and 123s), and 2- to 10-year-olds, as well as their clever, discriminating parents, get to feel good--and maybe learn something, too. Highlights on a CD/DVD package with nary a dud among its 24 audio tracks include the disco-dipped "High Five," the funk-flecked, Dust Brothers-produced "Seven," and the head-trippy but hugely sensible (think about it) "One Everything." --Tammy La Gorce |

Click Here | Amazon.com: No stranger to the realm of children's records, They Might Be Giants have seen success with their CD No! and the book-and-CD combo Bed, Bed, Bed. Their latest CD, Here Come the ABCs, offers up 25 alphabetically themed songs. However, as is their charming way, the two Johns (Flansburgh and Linnell), use the letters as merely the connective tissue, allowing them to pursuit intriguing flights of fancy that consider everything from the relative power of letters and sounds to animal hijinks. Just as they've always done, there are wistful ballads and high octane rockers. TMBG have always been a family-friendly band, and this disc works just fine for adult fans, who can rightfully consider this simply their newest release. --David Greenberger |

Click Here | Amazon.com: The Chipmunks may have been CGI-ized but the helium-distorted, super-high-pitched singing style of Alvin, Simon and Theodore has been preserved. If you have kids or are a kid at heart (with a special fondness for novelty tunes), this is a goldmine. The 'munk classic "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas, Don't Be Late)" is covered twice: the "DeeTown OG Mix" is a fairly faithful version, while the "DeeTown Rock Mix" goes the emo-lite route; another nugget, "Witch Doctor," also gets dusted up, with the addition of a so-so rap. Nice bonus: The 1958 versions of these two songs are included as well, for old times' sake. Newer tracks are just as zany. The CD starts off with a take on David Powter's hit "Bad Day," which sounds completely insane done Chipmunk-style; "Funky Town" is downright hair-rising. The DeeTown Syndicate not only produced it all but also contributes several songs of its own that waffle between corny hip-hop ("How We Roll") and contempo Disney Channel style ("Coast 2 Coast"). It's all really nutty and really fun. --Elisabeth Vincentelli |

Click Here | Amazon.com: Someone get Amy Adams on the Broadway stage, stat! She may not have the huge pipes that are supposed to be necessary for singers nowadays, but based on her sweet performance of three songs on this soundtrack, she gets a tune. Leaving aside High School Musical-style contemporary pop, Disney returns to its sources here, with a fairy tale set to a traditional-minded score by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.). The first three songs are loving, well-crafted homages to Disney classics, such as Cinderella and Snow White; tellingly, the lovely "Happy Working Song" (with lyrics by Stephen "Wicked" Schwartz) sounds like it could have been lifted from any number of Disney movies--and that's meant as a compliment. Carrie Underwood brings us back into the 21st century with the single "Ever Ever After", which in comparison feels a bit more anonymous. Menken also supplies several instrumental cues, often reprising themes alluded to in the songs, and James Marsden wraps things up with a hilariously straight-faced version of "That's Amore." --Elisabeth Vincentelli More from Disney Classic Disney: 60 Years of Musical Magic | Disney's Greatest, Vol. 1 | Disney's Greatest, Vol. 2 | Disney's Fantasia | Disney's Hercules | Mulan | Disney's Beauty and the Beast | Disney's Sleeping Beauty | Disney's Cinderella |
Album Description: A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess (Amy Adams) from the past who is thrust into present-day by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon). Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer (Patrick Dempsey). Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world? A musical comedy starting Oscar nominee Amy Adams, Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon. The film is a combination of animation and live-action and, as Disney's big movie for Christmas, you won't be able to move around without seeing the princess image (above) everywhere you go. The film will launch simultaneously on approx 800 screens nationwide. |

Click Here | Amazon.com: Tweens aren't often heralded for their good judgment and excellent taste (Heelys--hello), but if any young starlet can redeem them, it's Hannah Montana. On this, the second soundtrack from the Disney Channel series, Miley Cyrus takes her cues from her TV alter ego, who has an alter ego of her own: Disc 1 features Miley as Hannah, hair-tossing pop princess by weekend, likable schoolgirl by weekday (see "Old Blue Jeans" and "True Friends" to get a sense of each episode's un-cloying sweetness). But disc 2 is the start of something new, as her friends over on the High School Musical set might say: Miley sings strictly as her spunky, truth-telling self. This yields a number of pepped-up pop tracks bound to vibrate through the walls of pink bedrooms everywhere--"See You Again" is a boy-centric song instantly relatable to anyone who's ever been in seventh grade and suffered a bout of bashfulness, "East Northumberland High" puts a punk spin on an I'm-just-not-into-you tale, and "Clear" bounces on a reggae beat while canceling any doubt about our heroine's ability to stand up for herself. Like Hannah before her, Miley makes the best of both worlds--this well-worth-it set, by turns rockin' and reflective, is a masterful example. --Tammy La Gorce Hannah Montana Photos |
